There has been much talk that many of us go to DEFCON to see our friends, and it's gotten too large.There is a desire to gather our people/tribe together in a smaller group, that is quieter (no loud music).
Things tossed out, cruise, a faux con so the business would pay, a unconference with no amplification just discussions.
Silly idea of mine - standup con / scrum con
What have you been working on, what are you going to work on, what blockers are you hitting?
Silly idea of a friend (will ID you if you want) badges that indicate if you are being too loud (turn off/deactivate)
- Does this interest you?
- What are the most important factors?
- Can it conflict with another convention? (aka would this be on top of for you, or a replacement to)
- What price range? (aka figure out of cruise or cost a key factor)
- Anything else?
- Would including meals be a benefit or a negative?
Example:
- All inclusive resort with large gathering spaces
- Cruise where everyone was part of one group (for meals, in area of ship)
- a hotel-con but limited in size with no formal track just reserved space

Most important factors for me: low stress for all, easy discussions (quiet spaces) and hang out places and times. Ability to mix own drinks would be nice (like a larger version of a room gathering)
This would be on top of any other con attendance for me, but finding dates is hard for all.
Decide on the maximum number of people. 25? 50? 100? invite only? Decide on duration and timing (weekend). 2 nights? 1 night? A week! (hard to do for most)
Costs - So many ways to do this -- options:
1) informal, everyone just all get hotel rooms at the same hotel, and then maybe reserve a function room at minimal expense, or pay for a big enough suite for everyone to gather in. Pluses is that everyone has their own room space for separate gatherings. Can still do "con badges" and so forth.
2) rent giant house/mansion, everyone hang out/stay there. Like original Bsides.
3) Cruise on a boat somewhere (elements of the above), but more expensive, with an actual agenda. Can also just choose to cruise together, without have formal organization and recognition. But that is not this group's style, I don't think.
4) full on Private or public mini-con, with reserved hotel/resort/cruise space and rooms and formal things.
